On the 8th of January 2020, as part of the Brexit Withdrawal Bill, an amendment was put to parliament that would have maintained the right for unaccompanied refugee children to be reunited with their families here in the UK. The amendment was struck down after a 251 to 347 vote against, condemning thousands of children to remain at risk of torture, slavery, forced prostitution, rape, police violence and murder in Europe’s inhumane refugee detention centres and unofficial camps.
In the UK we usually treat people who promote child abuse as horrific criminals, so why do politicians get a pass when their decisions put children in the same situation?
