Mourning Chorus, 2018

‘Mourning Chorus’ consists of several hundred hand-cast and painted 5.56x45 calibre Jesmonite bullets displayed inside a box frame. The bullets are a smaller part of a site-specific installation shown during the ‘Revolt’ exhibition held at Oxford Brookes University in 2018, which included a total 1,370 bullets strewn around the building and 8 large agitprop poems hung from the ceiling.

The title comes from the testimony of a child, living through the conflict in Syria, who talked about how in the morning the sound of birdsong had been replaced with the sound of gunfire.
