‘Keep Calm and Spit on Rich People’ is an intentionally provocative and sloganeering statement inspired by the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope and his proclamation: “In a rich man’s house, there is no place to spit but his face.”
In this era of deadly wealth divide, when huge swathes of land, resources and production are owned and controlled by a tiny minority of people, when, in the house of a wealthy man, the land has been forcefully taken from the people and the contents paid for with the labour of his workers - through the threat of “work or starve“ - knowing this, where would you spit?
